Venetian culture is both a visual and a gastronomic pleasure.
| In November 1996 Venice played host to a major exhibition of Giovanbattista Tiepolo at Cà Rezzonico, one of the first and most comprehensive ever staged on this painter. Gastronomically, November is the season of baby squid and the tastiest prawns. In honour of this great eighteenth century artist and the traditional Venetian love of beautiful things to see and delicious things to eat, Hostaria Ae do Porte offered exactly that, thanks to painter Claudio Monnini and chef Mario Loris. |

Claudio Monnini @ Ae Do Porte
|
The artist Claudio Monnini.
He has a squint and his head is permanently in the clouds. His main occupation is doing the rounds of Milan's advertising agencies, "visualising" the ideas of the creative staff. He's always slightly dishevelled and in a hurry. At least one article of clothing is always awry and he forgets to look people in the eye. Which is why he thinks the essence of things can be found scattered around in marginal details - how his wife bites her nails and crosses her legs nervously, the smell of Venice's canals, the colour of its walls, the cats and fish at "Ae Do Porte".
When he was 12 Claudio and his fourteen year old sister held their first exhibition at the "Centro le Mura" gallery in Milan. He resurfaced eighteen years later at "L'uva Golosa", also in Milan. He has participated in a number of "Humour Graphic" exhibitions and events as well as in design exhibitions and competitions.
